MoneyWise vs Mint

MoneyWise vs Mint

Mint was once America's most popular free budgeting app — but Intuit shut it down in 2024 and migrated users to Credit Karma. If you're looking for a Mint alternative, MoneyWise offers private, local-first tracking with no ads.

Two ways to track your money. Mint is a free budgeting app, now discontinued. MoneyWise is local-first, multi-currency, and brings your own AI key.

Where MoneyWise is different

Offline-first by design

Every record is in an encrypted SQLite database on your phone. Works in airplane mode.

Bring your own AI key

Plug in your Anthropic or OpenAI key. Insights run with no extra subscription. Or use pooled credits in Pro.

Multi-currency from day one

Hold accounts in any currency. Convert with daily rates. No 'home currency only' lock-in.

No ads, no trackers

Nothing leaves your device unless you turn on optional encrypted sync. We literally cannot read your data.

AI you control

An advisor that runs on your terms

Most finance apps either don't have AI, or send your transactions to a vendor's server. MoneyWise lets you choose: bring your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, or use Pro's pooled credits. Either way, the AI sees only what you ask it to see.

  • Keys stored in iOS Keychain — never on our servers
  • Daily Brief, monthly summaries, and ad-hoc Q&A
  • Skip AI entirely — every other feature still works

Privacy, not a feature

Your data stays on your phone.

MoneyWise is built local-first. No ads, no trackers, no data sale — ever.

Offline-first

Every record is stored locally in an encrypted SQLite database. Works with airplane mode on.

Optional cloud sync

Sync across your own devices when you turn it on. Rows are encrypted at rest; we can't read them.

BYOK AI

Bring your own Anthropic or OpenAI key. Keys live in the iOS keychain and never transit our servers.

Which one is right for you?

Choose MoneyWise if MoneyWise

You want a private, ad-free budgeting app that works offline, supports multiple currencies, and never sells your data. MoneyWise is the clean break that Mint never was.

Choose Mint if

Mint is no longer available for new sign-ups. If you were a Mint user, your best path is to explore Credit Karma (the official migration) or a modern alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mint still available in 2024? +

No. Intuit shut down Mint in early 2024 and redirected users to Credit Karma. The original Mint app and website no longer accept new sign-ups or active accounts.

Where did Mint users go after the shutdown? +

Intuit officially migrated Mint users to Credit Karma, where transaction tracking and net worth features were added. Many users also switched to YNAB, Monarch Money, Copilot, or MoneyWise.

Can I import my old Mint data into MoneyWise? +

MoneyWise doesn't have a one-click Mint CSV importer yet. You can export your Mint transactions as CSV from Credit Karma and manually import the most important accounts to start fresh.

How is MoneyWise different from what Mint offered? +

Mint was free but ad-supported and stored all your data on Intuit's servers. MoneyWise is local-first — your data stays on your device in an encrypted database, with no ads and no trackers.

Does MoneyWise have bank sync like Mint did? +

MoneyWise focuses on manual and receipt-based entry for maximum privacy. Automatic bank sync is on the roadmap. In the meantime, you can connect accounts via CSV export from your bank.

Is MoneyWise free like Mint was? +

MoneyWise is free for unlimited records on a single device. Pro ($6.99/mo or $49.99/yr) adds multi-device sync, backup, and AI. Unlike Mint's free model, there are no ads or data brokering.
